Access control

From a single access point to a network spanning several sites

We offer everything from a standalone application with a single control point to a networked system capable of managing access for one organisation across different sites.

They used to be common only in large buildings and high-occupancy venues; today any organisation can benefit. As well as improving security, you will have a record of the people who have entered each restricted area and real traffic data to analyse later.

Solutions can be electronic, biometric or mechanical, with the same goal: managing access for people, vehicles and goods. We guide you in choosing the most suitable system and design it for your premises.

Systems

Access control systems we install

We choose the system and identification method according to the security level of each area.

Standalone control

A single access point that manages itself, with no server or network.

  • Specific doors and areas
  • Users added and removed on the unit itself
  • Simple installation

Multi-site networked control

All access points in one shared software platform, even if they are in different buildings.

  • Permissions by zone and time
  • Instant changes
  • Centralised access log

SALTO electronic locks

SALTO locks and readers, which we install and maintain as a certified partner.

  • Electronic locks
  • Programmable keys and cards
  • Access management software

Card and keypad

Identification by personal code or by proximity and radio frequency.

  • Code keypads
  • RFID or Mifare cards and key fobs
  • Card and code combined

Biometrics

Fingerprint identification, reserved for areas where it is justified.

  • Prior assessment of necessity
  • Non-biometric alternative
  • GDPR compliance

Vehicles and goods

Barriers and number plate recognition for car parks, campuses and sites, with our CRONOS software.

  • Number plate recognition
  • Vehicle barriers and gates
  • Goods access

What you can control

  • Entry and exit of people and vehicles
  • User access by zone and time
  • Occupancy control
  • Visitor management
  • Staff attendance
  • Goods access

Regulations

Access control, biometrics and data protection

Every access log processes personal data and must comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) and Spanish Organic Law 3/2018 (LOPDGDD). When identification is biometric, the requirements are stricter.

Biometric data: a special category

  • Art. 4(14) GDPR

Defines biometric data, such as fingerprints or facial images obtained through specific technical processing.

  • Art. 9 GDPR

Prohibits processing biometric data for the purpose of uniquely identifying a person, unless one of the exceptions it lists applies.

  • Art. 35 GDPR

Requires a data protection impact assessment when processing is likely to result in a high risk, such as large-scale processing of special categories of data.

  • Art. 25 GDPR

Data protection by design and by default: only the data necessary for the purpose.

Indicative summary. In 2023 the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) published specific guidance on attendance control processing using biometric systems.

How we apply it in the project

  • We assess with you whether biometrics are necessary or whether a card or a code would meet the need equally well.
  • We configure permissions and logs with the minimum data needed for the purpose.
  • We restrict who can view the access logs.
  • We provide the system's technical information for your record of processing activities and, where applicable, your impact assessment.

Partner

SALTO Certificated Partner

We work with SALTO access control systems and electronic locks as a certified partner. Operation is simple: software records all access information, and its roll-out causes hardly any disruption for staff.

And when the project needs something the market does not offer, we design custom hardware.

Methodology

How we run an access control project

  1. Analysis

Access points, zones, user profiles, schedules and sites.

  2. Design

Standalone or networked system and identification method for each zone.

  3. Installation

Readers, locks, barriers and management software.

  4. Configuration

Users, permissions and schedules, and training for whoever manages it.

  5. Maintenance

Scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance, visible in your customer portal.

CMMS and customer portal

Your access control, maintained and in plain view

Readers, locks and barriers are inventoried in our in-house CMMS, with their inspection schedule. From your customer portal you log a request when a door fails and follow its status until it is resolved.

  • You log requests from the portal and follow their priority, status and jobs
  • Response and resolution times recorded for each request
  • Preventive maintenance schedule, inventory, installation map and documents
  • Job reports signed on a phone, as PDFs with a SHA-256 hash and sent by email

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about access control

What is the difference between standalone and networked access control?

A standalone system manages a single access point by itself. A networked system centralises all points in one shared software platform, lets you change permissions instantly and records who has entered each area, even in organisations with several sites.

Which identification methods can you install?

Keypad, proximity or radio frequency (RFID and Mifare cards), fingerprint and number plate recognition for vehicles. We can combine them according to the security level of each area.

Can fingerprints be used for access control?

It is possible, but biometric data that uniquely identifies a person is a special category of data under Article 9 of the General Data Protection Regulation: processing it is prohibited unless one of the exceptions in that article applies, and it requires an assessment of necessity and proportionality and, as a rule, a data protection impact assessment. We help you assess whether a card or a code would meet your needs equally well.

Can access control also be used for time and attendance?

Yes. Access records can be integrated with SICON, our time and attendance system, and with ACAE for contractor staff access.

Do you work with SALTO electronic locks?

Yes. We are a SALTO Certificated Partner, which allows us to design, install and maintain their access control systems and electronic locks.

Who maintains the system once it is installed?

We do: scheduled preventive inspections of readers, locks, barriers and software, and corrective maintenance when something fails. You log requests and check their status from your customer portal. More information in security systems maintenance.

Do you want to control who enters your premises?

We help you choose the right access control system, design it for your buildings and maintain it.
